I was wondering the same thing! The male's eyes are a bright red and the female's are a bright gold.
 
Are they in the Vieja family?
 
so I had to know and did a search. From the pics I found of these fish AquaMojo had the best pics out there surprise lol Anyhow when view a few different pics of his and also another large pair I found. It looks like the female has the red eye and male from goldish looking to blue eyes when they get larger. Is that fish of yours the male or the female?

by the way those guys are very nice looking when they get big! They really do a big color change
