Any updates on the pair and fry
Hi everybody, thank you again for the nice words. To update you guys, yesterday I removed the fry's and put them in a breeding tank during a water change. The male started to beat the crap out of the female, I don't know the reason for this but I'm sure it had to do with the removal of the frys. Maybe he's upset or maybe he's trying to breed again and female is not ready. Well anyways I had to divide the two. I will take pics and update you with the pairs non breeding colors...IT SHOULD BE VERY COLORFUL!!
I have found that when I remove the fry, I always leave a dozen or so fry w/ the parents. That way dad doesn't get p**** and blame mom or want to try and spawn again. It has worked real well for me.
Do you have the pair alone in their own tank? I would advise keeping some other not to aggressive fish in the same tank if its large enough. I had my male breidohri 9-10" and female 5" with a male lyonsi 7", male syn 7", female salvini 6" and a male escondido 4-5" in a 240g. They spawned a couple times for me with no aggression from the male to the female. The female you have was from the pair I gave to Gani. She was pretty feisty when I had her, more aggressive then the male actually.
The female was yours before Gani? No worries I will take good care of her. I've lost my female to my male and learned from that mistake and will take extra care not to lose this one. I agree with keeping some fish in the tank to distract the pair so they don't kill each other and it might even help the pair bond sooner to go up against other fish. I'm not 100% on this but thats what I had to do initially to get them paired up. The female is really feisty in th beginning, they were going at it pretty hard in the beginning so I decided to throw in one of my cuban and frontosa for distraction...poor fishies but I had to do it. No worries I pulled them out before it got too bad and they are fully recovered. I would hate to have to do that again...I only have a 90gal tank for them so it would be impossible to keep other fish with them permanently.
