Got 5 of them today, they are small, about 1.5". They are in a 10 gallon with lots of driftwood. I want to breed the brichardi, would keeping guppies in the same tank disturb the breeding process?

jewel cichlid they will kill the guppies in no time if not already they have been known to kill big ca/sa cichlid like oscars and green terror. unlucky for the guppies they got no chance

You serious?? These little buggers? Come to think of it, all the guppies are kind of hugging the surface. Well, the guppies were to keep them company.

lol are the jewels white with black bands when stressed or fighting or are they pink-red-orange colour the redish 1s will kill the guppys other white one maym the white 1s are called dwarf jewels and the pinky ones are called jewel cichlid

Yeah I'm thinking the guy at the store mislabeled them. They are brichardi cichlids, the pale cichlids with long fins with white tips.

Brichardi are just as bad as jewels.. they take care of fry as a community... Caring for and protecting like Convicts :) Only their teeth are much more nasty looking :D

I noticed that even after a few days, I see no signs of aggression towards each other, just the guppies. Guppies are fine for now.

Update on the brichardis, they have eaten about half the guppies, and for some reason they never even showed aggresssion towards each other but now 4 of them will pick on one of the brichardis and its stuck in the corner of the tank...
