Bricks...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yeah, never stick rocks in the oven either! lol.. bad bad bad. they explode there too. i just powerwash the rock in the driveway and throw them in the tank...

I'm not sure why you are worried about calcium carbonate rock? If you are going with Africans it's a good thing to jack the Ph and keep it there as the rock will act as a buffer.

I have used bricks in the past. Never had any problem with the brick hurting the fish.

But I gotta say go with the landscaping place. I just took a buddy to one. He bought 68 pounds of rock for $6. .09 cents a pound since it was all small stuff and they classified it as miscellaneous rock.

Get some blocky stuff, some round river rocks and some flat pieces of slate. Done.

True, but there are some random non africans in there. I want to avoid any changes in water chemistry at this point as i am at college all week and can't be there to monitor things and makes changes.

Thanks for the suggestions, i'll check out a rockyard.

Stable ph is much more important than any particular range other than extremes in ph. Calcium rock will help keep your ph stable. That's a good thing.

Its the temporary instability resulting from adding the new rock that i dont want to deal with at this point.

I'm going to let them sit in a bucket for a week or so and see what they do to the water chemistry. So i won't throw out the idea of using them, but as they appear to be synthetic of sorts...i'm not sure they are safe because of bonding agents, dipping, etc.

I used pavers in my 120 for a while when I was still in school since I was not allowed to work while student teaching. It was cheap and did the job. I did not have a problem. I took them out after the move... wait no I have 4 in the grow out tank. No problem at all
