My fish are starting to turn really dark because the lighting on my tank is this purple color.

So i went out to find some really bright white ones and bought the full spectrum sun glow.
but this thing turns my tank green and nasty looking.

Are the zoomed tropic sun the same thing too? what about the all glass flourescent bulbs?

which bulbs produce a white color? i don't want any color like blue, green, purple...

aga bulbs are pretty nice, your substrate can have a big effect on the appearance of your tank, the same 18k bulb over my 20L w/ play sand substrate looks very yellow while over my 29g w/ white sand has a nice blueish hue. the tropic sun would probably be a bit yellow, since its 55k

If you just get a basic 10,000K bulb that will be nice and white. However, with lighting like this, your algae will grow faster, as it sounds like you have excessive nutrients. Check your nitrogen and phosphorus levels.

sorry i don't get the 10,000K part...
any brand names?
are you talking about the zoomed ocean sun?

what about the actinic white 12,000K, from the same company as the sun glo? will it be nice and white?

i'm not too worried about algae problems. mag float does a good job, and the pleco touches it up

10,000 K is the color temp of the bulb... actinic is a marine type bulb used for deep water... and it grows algea liek CRAZY... that one would prob be a tint of blue

does anybody have pics. of what the tank looks like with the actinic whites?
and the zoomed ocean sun?

hey can you use those bulbs that are on the school ceiling?

They're called shop lights bud. primarily used for people with a tight budget and not wanting to grow anything.

well thanks bud.
why not suggest me some nice white flourescents then?
any pics of the actinic white or the 10000 blue ocean sun?

the "shop lights" hae the best lighting i've ever seen. perfect white.

Hagen, the maker of the sun glo bulbs, does not make a 12,000K bulb anymore. The flora glo bulb is their lowest at 2700K (if I remember right), then the sun glo at 4700K, the Life glo 2 at 6700K, the aqua glo and power glo at 18,000K and then the marine glo which is just actinic. If you want a white light, just go to lowes and get a cool white 48" T12 bulb.
