Brightly colored dithers for large bass

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Moved to Cichla.

There's a guy on here who has a bunch of amazing looking pbass living with a bunch of various colored blood parrots. Its a VERY sharp setup! The parrots compliment the bass nicely.

Another option is the Red Snook, they have nice coloration when adults and are also bass shaped. I ended up getting rid of mine because I did not like the look of their mouth when extended during feeding time.

Are you thinking of Kendragon?

Snooks might get too aggressive. I wouldn't suggest cichlids because that would defeat the whole "dither" idea. Especially CA cichlids as they are all pretty aggressive. Plus a lot of geos will be eaten. You need a schooling fish. How about some large clown loaches, tin foil barbs have nice red fins, or there are a lot of silver dollar sp. to choose from. Blood parrots would make excellent feeders as that is all they are good for. I call them the deformed tropical gold fish.

I have successfully kept 4 snooks with my group of cichla, but I ended up selling the snooks because (as I mentioned above) I do not like how their mouth unfolds. If you did not read the previous posts carefully, before adding your $.02, the OP is disinterested in silver colored dither fish. Now I don't know if you are color blind (I apologize in advance if you are), but last time I checked, tin foil barbs and SILVER dollars have a SILVER colored body (which is why nobody was recommending them). I currently own 6 widebar, 4 thinbar, 4 redhooks, and 8 regular silver dollars and think they are amazing dithers, but that is not what the OP is asking for. To add more insult, your offhand comment on Blood Parrots is unfounded and makes you sound like a bigot. This kind of slander is not appreciated in the Cichla subforum, especially from someone that almost never posts here and that does not even keep cichla.
