bring ph down

I got a PH of 8.4 (tap water48 hours aged with an airstone and dechlorinated) and I am yet to have issues with it however I would like it to be an 8 too. Peat I hear helps

Yeah , Do you get the nitrates from the tap like I do ? 30-40 PPM SUCKS!

Ok, I've got extremely soft water (I believe the school has a huge water softener), and the ph is just about that high from the tap. No nitrates from the tap, but very high alkalinity. I don't know if that's from the softener either but.......

so, could a softener add that much in alkilinity?
