So at the lfs with my brother n law we gott on the topic of sa/ca aggression and what is better? To have rocks, caves, drift wood for the fish to fight over and claim... or to have very little to nothing but substrate so the fish have nothing to fight over.... maybe a cpl big rocks to break up line of site but that's it. Well after a half hour two guests and 3 employees later its at a stand still... so now I bring it here to you what's your opinion?

It really depends on a lot of other factors. There is no definitive answer. There's your answer.

I cant say with any confidence that no territory means nothing to fight over. It depends on the fish and other factors as ryan said. Some fish may do better with hiding places, some may not

When I had Malawis, I had them in a bare tank for a week while I was revamping my main tank.
They still fought.

I think it's in their nature. Yes, if there is no decor to mark out a terratory, it may may some of them calmer. But there are other factors as well.
