hi i am new to marine and i have a few questions.
well when i say new i mean i have the tank(empty at the moment)i am going to start in a few days,so im hopeing you guys can put me right.
1. is a deep sand bed a good idea(4 ince)
2. i have been offered 50 kilo of rock covered in coraline alge and looks realy good, but living in it is hundreds of bristle worms.are they good or bad.
any other tip are welcomed:)

DSB sound good on paper but the benefits just aren't documented or tested. I used to use one but would not try one again. My new tanks only got 1-2" of sand put in them and am very happy with the less sand look.

Bristle worms are fine with me. I run FOWLR though so can't comment on Reef issues. 50Kilo of free rock? Take it!

the reason he is giveing it away is because of all the bristle worms in it?thats what makes me think they must be bad in some way

Arrow crab. Completely rid my tank of them.

I was invaded my bristleworms so bad I tried everything from rinsing the whole tank completely out and put new clean sand down but they lived in the rocks and even doing it a couple of times didn't work, although I got rid of alot of them, I even tried a huge arrow crab but it was just to over whelming for it, nothing worked because there were just two darn many of them and they multiplied so fast, I hate live rock and I hate them darn bristle worms! Good luck.

thanks for all the replys, i was hopeing some one would let me know what eats them, dont want to say splash:nilly:

I dono if it right to do but it worked for me... Just take the rock and put it into a bucket of plain water. Let it settle there for a few min. you'll see them start to come out. Then just take some tweezers and pull them out. It will hurt some of the Coraline algae but it will grow back.

But, definitely take the rock.. Don't pass that up.
