Hi,

so im fixing up my 29 gallon and getting ready to stick my juvenile bristle nose in there and I was wondering if i could get him/her (i think it might be a boy) some friends, namely, other bristlenoses. I know ive read that they can be territorial as far as the males go but since i would probably be being them as babies i might not be able to tell what gender they are at purchase time. would it be that bad if i bought a few males? what are your experiences?

what are some tank mates that yall think might go well with bristlenoses in a 29 gallon? there will be two banjo catfishes in there too.

I've been breeding BNP for a few years now, and never had problems with at least a dozen of them in the same tank.
There's only 2 breeding pair in there now and they don't seem to care if I add a new one.

do you have multiple males in there? how big is the tank/ how many do you think i can put in a 29 gallon without over doing it?

The tank is actually my sump. I use it as a refugium with plants. The area with plants and plecos would be equivalent to a 90 gal. I've got 4 females and about 10 males full size.
Whenever i add a male, they go through a dominate thing for a couple hours then they're done.

so i could maybe have a total of 4 in a 29 gallon? im also gona have those banjo catfishes.

also, my 29 gallon is kind of cloudy right now, i just refilled it after taking dirt out of it a few days ago. it's empty and bare right now. new filter is running and the heater is on. is this a cycling thing that will go away on it's own or should i be adding something to help it clear up?

also, do you have any suggestions for other possible tank mates?

4 should work out OK.
Cloudyness should go away.
Did you fill it with cold water? Could be the difference in temp.

Tank mates I'm not sure about.Bristlenose should get along with anything. Just remember they're vegetarians

i dont remember if the water was cold or not, i think it might have been warm\hot actually (the fish are in a ten gallon holding tank right now not the 29 gallon). the heater now says it is about 79 degrees. threre is this white stringy stuff forming on the walls, like algae. it should go away on its own?

what do you recommend to feed to bristlenoses?

I know a guy down near tacoma who has raised generation after generation of BN pleco on nothing but canned peas, and the fish look amazing.

Is your tank cycled?
