I've had bristle nose plecos in with my Pundamilia Nyerereis which are very similar to mbuna temperaments and they always fought. The bristle nose plecos held their grounds and actually roughed the nyererei up to the point where he stopped trying to bully the bristle nose. I actually had to take out the plecos since they were so aggro. Just my experience.
wow never knew a pleco could do that... lol

Bristlenose pleco males are brutal. They can hold their ground against african cichlids from my experience.

I have BN plecos in many of my african tanks. As long as the plecos are close to full grown they do well with the rougher fish.

wow... good to know.. i love those bushy nose... so its good to know in case i get more..

Why do people keep pleckos in a high pH?

Am I the only one who likes to keep them just below 7?

I have BNs with my africans and they are fat and happy.

I have 2 BN in with mine. I hardly ever see them but when I do they are healthy looking. I have a piece of wood in there for them and they live under that.

I have four tanks set up right now and they all Malawi cichlids and I have BN in all the tanks. I have even had them breed in a tank with smaller africans. And I have not noticed a big difference in water parameters with or without them.
