Still a trash fish that destroys the natural habitat of many better adapted sport fish. Catching carp is about as challenging as catching seagulls and probably no more thrilling

That's fine but as i said just try it you might like it :D. Carp fishing is the fastest growing area of angling in the UK. With more pay-to-fish lakes being developed every year and carp becoming increasingly skilled at elusivity.( we are talking 30lb + fish) but if we all liked the same we would not have a MFK would we?

Stotty,
You are definately entitled to your opinion and so many millions of Brit anglers cant be wrong....but invasive sport fishing species are always a problem wherever they are introduced. Canada is no exception-carp are a problem though a lot of anglers interested in instant gratification rave about the 'fight' they offer ( mostly the Nintendo generation). I prefer to bend a fly rod on a speckled trout, pacific salmon, or even a bass as far as that goes.
The only invaders I have enjoyed like a fanatic are the monster brown trout that fill the many lakes and rivers of New Zealand! Now your talking some great fishing...

Yes as far as I am concerned any fisherman is a good guy and yes I have fished in several country around the world (ok its for those horrid carp most of the time) and have fished for several species that includes sharks pike catfish etc etc. It’s not just the British that are big into the Carp seen the French Dutch and Germans are really into it. And now America is starting to get into it. They just offer a lot of fight for the size of fish. We will leave it there till I post some more pics of these old tyres.;)

Also Paul if i can add to this, alot of carp fishermen are after carp which have never been caught befor too which makes it more sporting, and the way you can tell if a carp has never been caught befor is by looking in the mouth, i'll explian!

in the mouth of a carp behind the top lip is like a thin peice of tissue which leads around the top lip it's like a flap now a fish which still has this tissue intact is a fish which has never been caught, it tends to get ripped out when a fish has been caught and is then lost or has obvious holes in it from capture, it is also custom here in the UK to name the fish which has never been caught!

have i missed anything out there " obe wan stotty " may the force in the rod be with you!!!

:D

Another proven method of determining whether or not a carp has been caught before is to reach down its throat and grab its tail. If you pull on it hard enough you can turn it inside out...........Well maybe thats how to make sure that it never gets caught again.

( this post may be in poor taste...like carp!)

That flap is to make sure that no water is passed out thought the mouth, That flap of skin at the top of its mouth (also known as the "curtain") which seals the mouth, so that the carp can complete its proper breathing function. Unfortunately, it is common place to see carp without this flap of skin, due to the carelessness of anglers, who damage this part of the mouth when hooking and unhooking them. (Or sticking your hand down there throat and turning them inside out) "Please be careful". I have seen a 20lb fish in a lake I used to fish caught 5 times and it still had the curtain. This was because every time it was caught it was hooked out side in because of its odd shaped mouth. So it was never hooked correctly. But then again I have seen carp in bag up waters with no lips :( and they still fight on.

As for names of fish yes we have some famous carp in the UK and France. Two tone being the most famous.

Last of all the official WORLD RECORD carp stands at 84lb 8oz from Rainbow Lake France.

The official British record stands at 64lb 5oz Caught by Jon Pack I don’t care what people think but that is a big fresh water fish and I think worthy of the title monster and if you did have lets say the misfortune of catching it then if you could brink your self to kill a 60 year old fish then that is sad:(
