British pike

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
No problem, its home farm fishery's, they got cats over 60lb!! Ain't had one yet my biggest only 27lb. I will post a few more pics in a min, really want to do a native tank now lol I think it's got a lot of potential

Nice man I'll hit you up when i eventually get some time to go fishing (lifes hectic at the min for me so no fishing :'( )
there's catfish in sale waterpark couple of miles away from me but most of the 20+ have been taken out so ive been told.
I think you should go for 4-6 small perch , few plants from source , few branches to break line of sight to lessen aggression between them it'll be nice touch , maybe couple of moss balls here and there , you get the picture lol

Seems like everything's pointing too perch then, thanks for the opinions, advice and expert knowledge. I love this site. Thinking along the lines of heavily planted very natural looking aquascape, would I need power heads? (Just writing a shopping list)

Alright man! No, you shouldn't need a powerhead. Unless it's going to be a river biotope in which case a smaller one for that tank size would be fine. My school does fine with just a sponge filter and air line though.

I've always felt that keeping a native tank, if by native you mean temperate, one would have to employ a chiller to keep the temps in the upper 60s?

I kept a rockbass once. I loved that fish. i think if i was to attempt it again i would want to use a chiller long term.

90% of my fish (and I have ~150 and change at this point) are natives and I don't chill any of their tanks. Temps range from 64-66 in the winter to 72-76 in the summer and they all do great. Keeping Sunfish, Perch, Bullheads, Minnows, Dace, Shiners, Darters, and Mudminnows as of now. the only species I can think of that would need a chiller would be Trout, Char, Salmon, Smelt, a couple species of Sculpins, and all of the Coregonids. I might be forgeting a couple, but most of the species we native fish guys keep don't really need chillers as long as the room isn't crazy hot.

Looks like a great lake that mate , were are you getting the perch from there ? Look forward to seeing it setup , I'd be tempted myself but all my tanks are fully loaded :D

Just under that tree would be my spot too :D
That margin on the second PIC looks like it would be a hotspot for floating bait on a hot summers day ?????

Just out of interest what type of aro do you keep ? Sorry to derail the thread

Yeah will get plants and perch from there if Paul the manager gives me the green light, don't think it will be much of a problem to be honest, I only have the one going at the minute, I had to stop lol I had loads on the go and my misus wasn't happy haha
