Broken Jaw Silver

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well it's been a difficult time, but he took freeze dried krill today! He's re-injured himself several times, and I've been fighting a fungal tuft growing in his wound, but he's starting to eat again, and most of the fragments have either sealed up or fallen off. At this point, only the main fissure in his lip remains, and it looks like skin has covered almost all of it. The fungus is under control, he's swimming more easily, and the guppies are starting to look scared again.

The largest issue has been doing water changes without spooking him. Slow even movements and taking plenty of time helped a great deal, and the melafix seemed to act as a good soothing agent. He's been more skitish than usual, but as he heals, he's feeling more confident. I'm still not going to try getting pictures of his injury, I don't want to startle him.

Thanks for the advise guys. I appreciate the help and support!

Very glad to hear your aro is doing better. I hope you your mom and your roommates mom are all doing better as well. You all are in my prayers.

wow, you've really been through it. First, my prayers and best wishes to you and you family, I hope you all are OK. You sound like you have and are trying all you can with your Aro, he's lucky to have such a good owner and generally if animals survive the injury, since he's captive not wild, he will still be safe and be able to get food. I respect and admire people who really love and care for their animals, it's says a lot. The best of luck and am anxious to hear the outcome. If he survives and heals, he'll just be one of a kind!

Last post in this thread. Thanks for all the well wishes folks. My mother has recovered, but my room mate's mother died. I'll be moving along to other places shortly, as she's moving home to take care of her father. I'm still sickly, but I think a few days without my killer work schedule will put me to rights, and I'll get that when my notice is up and I move.

Ah but what of the broken jaw silver? He's streaking across the tank to snatch krill before the plecos can rise for it. He's the terror of feeder guppies once more. The tip of his jaw shows he's never going to look quite right again, but he's healed up at long last, and has put his weight back on full. He's even a little wiser about running into things, and not as skittish as he used to be. I'm gonna call it a full recovery. Now I just have to figure out where I'm moving to, and figure out how to bring him with me.
