Hmmm, if the kid was home when the tank busted he should have heard it. Sleeping or not, most people with a tank in the house will react immediately to the sound of water spilling out. My oldest is 12 and if any tank in the house burst she would be on the phone with me ASAP.

Maybe the tank got bumped or something?

I don't know, I have slept through a fire alarm at my dorm before, which is scary as hell to think about but true. I also had a 55's brace crack (lesson learned always level your tanks), and I didn't hear it, if it had spilled onto the floor I might have, but it didn't so when I went into the room to turn the fish lights on in the morning, I was really surprised to see someone replaced it with a custom bowfront tank the previous night. Needless to say, it got drained immediately.
