Hello everyone, I have brown algae all over my rocks, sand, and tank. I do clean the algae on the tank with a magnetic cleaner, but how can I get rid of it on the sand because there is starting to be a lot of it. Can I just stir up the sand to mix it up? I have no ideas on the rocks. All help is appreciated.

It sounds like you have diatoms, which are common for new set-ups. It will pass in a few weeks, and is something all new tanks go through. Keep the glass clean, your protein skimmer skimming, and you can siphon off the sand with a small(1/2") hose or get yourself a gravel cleaning set, which has a large tube at the working end which helps keep the sand from being siphoned out.

^agree I have a new tank and just got over a diatom bloom.

I just went through this also. When I had it, every couple of days I stirred the sand, scrubbed the glass, lightly brushed the rocks then blew them off with a power head. Then I put on a portable hang on micron filter for a few hours. That kept it in check. After I was convinced it was hear to stay it disappeared almost over night.

Yeah I didnt do anything to mind other then scrub my glass..... it went away on its own.

It will go away on it's own if you just leave it.

Probably both.
