Brown algae on sand

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It has been my experience that brown algae is fairly common in a new tank set up. It is diatoms that feed of the silica of a new tank, nothing to do with light and can actually reproduce with or without any light. Generally if you just leave it alone it will clear up shortly, as soon as the food source (silica) has been used up. Generally plecos will not touch brown algae, I know ottos love the stuff but cannot live off of algae alone. If I were you I would just use an algae scrubber and remove it every couple days and it should clear up in no time flat. Good luck!!
