I am have brown algae growing on my driftwood, swords, and anubias. What is the easiest way to get rid of it?

Pic is needed for confirmation of algae. If it is brown algae, you either have excessive silicates, or inadequate lighting. Best means is a scraper.
The algae eater you got, is one of the worst choices you could have picked up. They do a terrible job of eating algae. The problem you have is likely that your lighting is inadequate. Try adding another light strip to the tank, but keep in mind that this will mean that higher order alga can start to grow, and take over.
