Brown algea on glass

I had this issue was undoubtably high phosphates.

Either of you have a sump?

If so build a dig algae scrubber... I put one on and have had no algae in tank at all since doing so. Every couple weeks I scrape off about a tennis ball size amount of algae from the scrubber. Is crazy and my quality is much better now also for my Rays.

Doesn't even need to be in a sump can be a small discreet one to rear of main tank.

Can do a narrow one to go in a discreet rear corner of the tank. Highly recommend and stops algae going on glass as it has an easier environment to grow in.

Although don't use purple lights, works better with all red LEDs

If your in UK mate the there's a guy on eBay 'reef leds' who sells a light kit cheap with everything you need. If you do go for it then go for 6 x red 660nm LEDs, I found algae didn't grow as much under purple ones. :)

Is that not a refugium? I would think a sump with multiple slices of growing space will work.

It would very well, however personally I didn't want to dedicate that much space for plants in my sump.
Guess it just depends on size.
