My brown bullhead catfish hasent been eating for awile. I recently brought it in for the winter and i thought that was why but then i remembered that he wouldnt eat in my pond for a little wile either. The water hasent changed. He used to eat pellets, worms, feeders, leftover food, basically anything i put in. Now he wont even go near the food i put in. any problem? maybe its just his metabolism is lowering for the winter.

How warm is the tank water? How long has it been since you brought it indoors? Could be the shock from moving it inside.

It has been 3 weeks and it is the water straight from my pond. it is in my garage which has one stable temp. at about 70 degrees.

Hmm....I don't know. Could be it's metabolism slowing down. How are the Nitrates, Nitrites, Ammonia levels in the tank? What are you feeding it?

I would have to think water parameters have something to do with it, but at 70 and below his metabolism will be slower than it would be in say 80 degree summer pond water. Try a few live earth worms or a couple small live crayfish.

Water temp. is the reason. He has been slowly "winterizing", for a lack of better term, he body. Seems perfectly normal. Why did you remove him from the pond?

Because brown bullheads are awesome and he didn’t think about it needing to winter. You should put it back in the pond, maybe put it in a rubber made tube and slowly add water from the pond to the tube until it’s full. And then set it free so that it may winter and spawn sometime during April through June. The female would lay eggs in a shallow hole with her strapping man caring for the eggs by her side. After the young hatch, both mother and father look after the kids. Do you really want to mess that up?

Or just keep it in the tank. That’s what I would do.:WTF:

i heard mixing your fish food with garlic extract helps them eat better. you could try that.

did you honestly just suggest that he turn the fish hes had for a long time loose? thats illegal! there are probably over 100 threads that explain this. the fish could transport diseases and disease the fish in the water in which you freed it. it is highly illegal DONT DO IT.
