first time ive seen one in a LFS today, so i HAD to jump on it. was only 3.99 too

did a quick search on here for post titles for brown ghost and dident get much. can anyone give me some info on them? they basically the same as a BGK?? had a BGK for awhile till he was lost to illness :(

mines going into my 75g for now with a clown knife, senegal bichir, an unknown-wussy-cichlid, and a kilin parrot. filtered by 2 ac110's and an xp3, tank temp is 78-80. that sound about good for one of these guys??

Apteronotus leptorhynchus -the brown ghost knife

I like these guys much better than their black ghost cousins. They don't get as large, have a greater sexual dimorphism (if you want to try to breed them) and have a better all around personality. Conditions sound about right. Keep an eye out to make sure it's getting some of the food, as the south american knives can get bullied around by more aggressive fish like clowns.

i have a brown african knife fish looks like a bgk but hes all brown not distinctive markings or stuff

alot like a black ghost knife as far as feeding and activity

my buddy has one and the thing goes wild for frozen bloodworms

so far this guy seems to be taking longer than my BGK to adjust to the tank, but its only been 2 days. the BGK was eating live blackworms straight from the bag, and pellet within 3 weeks.

i cant even get this little guy to come down from the spray bar, despite two ghost houses and a few caves in the tank

adjustment for this guy just dident happen :(

refused to leave the top of the filter spray bar, and found him dead few days ago. despite having plenty of caves, and a BGK house, and the other fish not bothering him at all, just wasent happening.

maybe 3" was a bit too fragile???

We get them in at less than 3" all the time, but the lab water conditions are much better than most home tanks

it REALLY sounds like somethign is harassing it. The only time our browns are EVER hanging at the top of the tank or hiding someplace other than a tube, is when another fish is harrasing it and we have to move him before it dies. It is the tell-tell sign that something needs to change in our tanks.

My guess, even if you say it isn't so, is something was spooking it when you werent looking.
