I looked in the sticky article about algae and checked out the plant geek site. From looking at the pictures i believe i have brush algae. i will provide a pic from my take. but on the site it says remove leaves of the plant to get rid of it but thats a problem because it has grown on most of the leaves of the plants in my tank and on the driftwood. is there any algae killer i can buy that will kill this stuff?

If you are not growing any plants like java fern on the wood just take it out of the tank and pour some household bleach over it. Leave for a couple of minutes and then just wash down with clear water. The black beard algae you have will turn pink and die off. If you want to be on the absolute save side, pour some echlorinator over the wood aftyer you have treated and washed it.
Remove the worst of the affected plants and dose with Easy Carbo (not sure if this is available in the US) or Flourish Excel. The active ingredient in both is glutaraldehyde. If you have no shrimp or snails in the tank you can double dose it and the black beard algae will disappear.
The main reason for black beard algae are fluctuating CO2 and nutrient levels. Invest in a powerhead or wave maker to get some more movement into your water.

Ok I will look 4 those at the store. I actually hav a big powerhead n there that produces a strong current
