thanks and have a great day :D

For the most part, think of them as a Dorado that tops out at 12". That will give you a really good idea of what they're all about.

so Dorado are basically brycon with a differren mouth shapes more predatory?

They are both South American Characidae characins. This means they are in the same family, but separated at the next lower taxonomic level, their genus. Yes, they are fairly closely related and similar in build and behavior. Dorados simply take the Brycon concept to the extreme.

Not all species of brycon max out at 12", theres 42 known species so if you don't know what species you really won't know where it will top out at...I had a few 15-16"inchers and DB has a few big ones right now.

Hence the for the most part in my post. ;)

i see

Most common in the fish trade is probably brycon dentex, but there is also a black tail species that is referred to as the common brycon, which isn't that common in the hobby.

IME brycon are easier to keep than dorado because of size and less aggression. There are some species that cohab very easily in a community and some that are a little bit trickier. They're territorial, especially towards silvery fish but they often school and mine shoal with my bbsd
