I've been really drawn towards Dorado lately but know I can't house one, unless there is a small specie but I don't think so

So since brycons look like mini Dorado I figure I'll go for these, up on some search some seem to get a hump backed almost panfish like look to them. Which is what I don't want lol, which species would keep that Dorado shape for life? Maybe behreae?

Also would like some owner opinions on aggression, whether they do better in school or single, how you think they'd do with peacock bass and possibly forskahlii or vittatus tigers?

Brycon are hit or miss, they can be very aggressive or docile depending on species, space, and tankmates. I had a Melanopterus that grew crazy fast and killed off his siblings so I kept him in a community with a dorado and a common wolf. They're cool fish but ime they aren't tolerant of each other or any silver fish with a similar body shape.

He looked exactly like this one and was around the same size when I lost him.

I've had a melanopterus too sold to me as a black tailed barracuda, 6 inches crazy aggressive and fast I had him with a leporinus and they used to fight till they were bloody. Was pretty skittish tho and the tank was in a high traffic spot and he would freakout and jump sometimes so eventually I decided he should go. I also had a 8 inch red tail brycon really great fish not that skittish, not as aggressive, cruised around instead of spazzing and darting and really used every inch of the tank doing laps. he picked on my 14 inch lapradei so I had to move him, but he was great with cichlids, pike cichlids, catfish, green sunfish, turtles (red ear slider and yellow belly cooter) and a 16 inch water cow. He ate pellets, krill, and superworms and occasionally feeders but not really that predatory of feeders. He grew soooo much on super worms i would recommend going to a reptile show and getting like a 1000 only like $16 lasts me 1.5 years. For some reason superworms were better than any other food I offered him. and he had a really nice goldish sheen on him, got pretty thick but still had that torpedo look. I think an atf would be toast, but idk never tried it, pbass may work if they're aggressive enough.

I had a brycon that looked like orbignyanus. It was very docile and loved playing with tiny grapes. It would suck it in and spit it out throughout the tank.

Haha that grape thing sounds cute as hell

My pbass is mean, it killed the other 2 Orinos I got to be his mates and stands up to a red wolf twice as thick and a few inches longer then him. Only thing that ever bullied him was a big datnoid that was the same length so it was much taller. Looks like I'm staying away from that specie you 2 kept haha I really do like the red tail brycons I'm doing a lot of research on em and hope they aren't like that one you guys kept

I've had a brycon dentex aka red tail brycon or sabalo cuda for the last 4 years has a body shape resembling a golden dorado. The fish is a foot long and cohabs with with dats, bichers, and an African pike. The brycon is nippy but usually gets his rear end kicked by the others. The dentex is a tough as nails fish.

Had a Dentex for a very short time (rays got it) from what I saw it was aggressive and lived up to most of the stereotypical stories for the species.

Have had several Melanopterus sp. and they all seemed pretty peaceful to me. I even raised a lil guy alongside a monster sized one and never saw any issues amongst them or any tank mates...... Grew VERY quick. My monster now resides in VLDesign's monster tank. Probably over 14" when I sold it. Still have the lil guy. Great dither fish in my opinion......
