I have read in the past that a bubbler is not completely needed .
I have complete filter and power head set up , But I am reluctent
to remove my bubbler .

I do not have my power heads set up to draw air .

I would like to remove it due to noise .
And I also just do not care for the bubbles any more .

Anything that breaks up the surface tension of the tank will help with the gas exchange and aerate the water. If your filters and powerhead are doing that, you don't need the bubbler.

Hehe, love the avatar, hehehe, yeah, hehe.

:iagree:

all a bubbler does is make surface agitiation to better allow for gas exchange.
so you dont nessecarily need one

??? Why do people think that injecting air beneath the surface has no effect on gas exchange???

Try this...the air bubbles are under pressure from 'alien' gasses under water, at the surface air bubbles are released to the atmosphere at zero pressure...where do you think more gass exchange is going to take place (we are not taking about the water surface area just the bubbles area).

Under pressure.

Yes the bubbles cause surface agitation resulting in more gas exchange, but they perform a vital function under water also (depth of aerator also increases this).

If your filter return velocity is high enough to create the more surface agitation than a bubbler then you could do without it or install an airstone in the return of your filter.

There's a reason that this method has been used for a hundred years or so.

It's been working fine with it sooo...

If your filter (?) is splashing water when it returns, turn it off for a few days, but diligently watch your fish (?), if they start staying by the filter return / surface or gulping air turn it back on!

They also make a limewood airstone: http://www.petsolutions.com/default.aspx?ItemId=96301222&EID=SZ96301222&SID=SHZIL thsi will be quieter because of the tiny bubbles (more efficient too).
