Hi it's been going on the first few weeks I had it..
But it stopped after I raised the waterlevel closer to the filter's lip..

anyways the thing going on is..
I am having alot of "bubbles" on the surface of the water..
it's completly insane!! it looks like someone dropped in a bottle of bubblebath..

are these floating stacking puffy bubbles good for the tank? they just seem like air bubbles that formed into one GIANT bubble..
could it be because the surface aggitation from the filter is hitting the side of the turtle dock infront of it?

The more you raise the water line up to the filter output, the less gas exchange your gonna have. The bubbles you have are GOOD,it means that enough turbidity is ocuring to cause bubbles.Turbidity=G-O-O-D.Just make shure,no matter your bio-load that you change water 10% at least 3+ times a week.

i used to get that all the time because i have a fizz rock... it's no problem sometimes it helps to have it exposed to more air ( without cover) but other then that u can try moving stuff around if its bad.... but just keep ur water agitated!

thanks! I also scooped the bubbles in a net and shook it underwater to let it get through the water.

yeah i'm doing a gallon water change everyday. and like a 75% water change whenever my turtle's feces clouds the tank..which is practically every 2 days..haha

I don't know..the way I read the description, those are not normal water circulation and gas exchange bubbles. These look like "fatty", bubble bath bubbles...excess feeding, fat in the water, under filtration?

i thought bubbles like that mean excess proteins or something in the water .
i cant remember sorry

They are neither good nor bad in and of themselves. What they signify is that there is something bad going on. What is going on is...
The filter is still cycling. The tank is underfiltered. The poop needs to be siphoned out more often. Feed less.

it's too much protein and other dissolved solids and particles in the water, just like the foam produced by a skimmer, but in a much smaller and uncontrolled way.

it means your water is dirty.

what do you mean by fat?
but i could be over-feeding the fish.. but again it didn't happen until I raised the filter lip.

hey is iron bad for the water too? i could have gotten a few drops in..(from a pot that has a big iron block..)

thanks merbeast..i guess i didn't go through the cycling process early..

watuga; i did a 80% water change and most of the bubbles are gone..i'll see if they come back in a few hours. i can't get the ones that are on the tanksides..

Fats consist of a wide group of compounds that are generally soluble in organic solvents and largely insoluble in water. Chemically, fats are generally triesters of glycerol and fatty acids. Fats may be either solid or liquid at normal room temperature, depending on their structure and composition... See Wikipedia or any other online source.

Fat is present in all of the food you feed your turtle. Uneated food breaks down and releases the fat into the water. The turtle will poop out a certain percentage of the fat it eats, and the poop will release the fat into the water. The reason the bubbles appeared as the water level rose is probably due to build up over time of fat combined with a more optimal turbidity and greater flow from the filter.

You will still probably want more filtration, more frequent water changes and less feed for the turtle for optimal health and water quality.
