In an emergency situation, when your fish are at the surface gasping for air, Hydrogen Peroxide can be added to intantly add oxygen to the water.

The effectiveness of adding bubbles can be increased by decreasing the size of the bubbles and increasing their numbers. You can add oxygen faster by using an airstone than by just bubbling straight from the airline.

I heard that (hydrogen peroxide thing) a few years ago, after four hurricanes hit florida in the same summer.

anyone know exactly how much hydrogen peroxide to add?

I'd probably just blow bubles with my mouth first, but it is good info to know.

If you can get a hold of a we/dry filter that would elimate the need for air pumps and stones. I have a 190G with a wet/dry and 2 fluval 404 filters and that's it...

even a HOB filter like an emporer 400 would help in oxygenating the water. That's what I have on my 55, with no air, and there's not a single fish gasping (I was really worried when I took the air out, though).

pcfriedrich-blowing air by mouth wont help the fish atall.. you would be blowing C02 into the water (we dont exhale O2) and not 02-it would be useless. for emergency uses, i bought some battery powered air pumps at the LFS (ebay has them also) it uses D cell batteries and will run a bubble line for a few hours..

later, i bought a battery backup for the wet/dry-it was quite expensive, but it will go for a long time and since i live on a hill and lose power if a rabbit farts, it has helped quite a few times.

your lungs don't absorb 100% of the oxygen in the air you breathe. that's why CPR works.

My 180 is kitchy

I only have the bubble disk in the 180 because the ray seems to like "playing" with the bubbles.

It means tacky, lowbrow, tasteless. In the same category as neon gravel and pink ceramic castles.
