Hey guys, just posting this because it was pretty interesting to see. We were fishing directly under the Burlington - Bristol Bridge for catfish and my buddy reeled in a short-nose sturgeon. He / she was 25" and 4lbs on the dot with our cheap scale. From what I understand they're pretty rare. I'll have pics later tonight after work :)

you shouldnt have tampered with it should have caught it took a picture of it in the water and let it go.

Wow i went rite by there today when we went to crystal lake right of 130 and i also fish the lakes right before u cross the bridge u guys were fishing under.

ITS SMALL WORLD!!

BTW- yes that is a very rare catch, cant wait to see the pics.

Yea, I didn't realize they were endangered until after the fact. I didn't even know they existed in the Deleware. It was an awesome experience. Cichlid do you fish anywhere locally?

i fish south, central, and east jersey. In ur area i fish those lakes right by the bridge, holiday day lake on 130, the two lakes off of wood street, 3 lakes on pennypacker/rancos creek rd.

I fish all over, in a few minutes im going out to peddie lake and launch the boat for a few hours!!

We see lots of shortnose sturgeon up here. Have caught a few while doing research. Every year we hear about sturgeon jumping into someone's boat and dying. This past year, one jumped into a Marine Patrol Boat. Smashed the windshield and almost hit the officer. If he wasn't wearing sunglasses, he would have probably lost an eye.

Looking forward to seeing your pictures. And yes, they are endangered and should not be tampered with or removed from the water.

Just saw the pics. Definately a shortnose. At that size, they are difficult for most to tell apart from atlantic sturgeon. Good to see it was hooked in the corner of the mouth.

Yea, the release went well. We fish barbless hooks while we're down there because a) it's all catch and release and b) the eels are a PITA to take off with barbed hooks.

Poor thing

Why? They caught a fish and then let it go. He said he didn't know they were endangered.
