My friend (same guy in the collecting trip thread in native forum) was on vacation in Florida when he called me up and said he got tagged by an electric ray!! He was out on the sand bar playing football with friends when he saw it. He said it was about the size of a saucer...really small...and looked really odd. Now he is a fisheries managment major at Auburn but in no way a ray expert...he said it was short and "stubby". Not wanting to step on it since they were playing football he decided to scope from under neath it with his hands and that is when it showed its true identity! He said the shock hurt like a ***** and left his arms pretty numb for a few hours but it didnt knock him out or anything!

haha yeah but he wasnt trying to pick him up. He was scoping the sand in his direction to move him...ya know...well you might not because you live in Canada, but if there is a crab buried in the sand you stick your foot down in the sand and push him out of the way....
 
An electric saltwater ray in Florida?


Your friend, does drink quite a bit? Or does he have a history of storytelling?
 
Sounds like that would make someone writhe in pain.

Google lesser electric ray. They look awesome! Sort of like a histrix but with those bigger pectoral fins and dorsal(?) fins on their tail! Hmm Ive never wanted SW but.... :nilly:
