Another cheap filter medium for big filters and sumps is 1/4" bird netting, available at any home center or garden supply store. Just wad it up!

Everything else I can think of has already been mentioned.

polyfill for most of my filters is a must its cheap. craigslist has gotten me a few of my tanks and equipment. all our sand is from homedepot in huge bags for $5. i think thats it for now.

I do the morton salt and the pot scrubbies.
It also saves energy to have your tanks set on timers. I know I would forget to turn off all of my tank lights alot. And with 800 gallons of tanks, a few ours every other day or so adds up. Other then that I go on Craigslist everyday. Oh and selling my body..that too. easy money...

I can tell by your avatar that you make alot of money with your career.

If your area has a couple of Petco or petsmart.. or walmart. i suggest going there rather that ur LFS....

Sometimes stuff like pH conditions or ammonia removal are cheaper at Petco/Petsmart..

As for fish.. get to know your LFS owners.. but beware. some do try to take advantage of you..... I usually dont do their business after that..

i use the micron filters for the magnums because you bleach them and reuse them

you can get cheap stones from home depot i didn't know this at first bought from a lfs cost a arm and a leg!

If you have a local cement company or two. Go there and get concrete sand $.50 for 5 gal bucket. Works great with plants. Make sure you rinse it in a pillow case though or will have to wait weeks for it to settle.

Well im in the trade so then everthing becomes cheaper LOL!

Before id get my dad to buy the things that i need but now i pay for it all. So i try and only buy those essential items. But now with the rising cost of electricity and other factors im selling off some of my larger pumps and gear for smaller more efficent ones.
