Buenos Aires Tetra or Tiger Barbs

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
JD is naturally a timid fish. A lone JD is skittish, and the larger it gets, the more skittish it becomes. The only time JD is bold is juvenile kept in a group always hungry for food. Interestingly, divers reported adult JD more shy than juvenile JD in the wild.

A 75 gal tank is about the size of a truck tires rut in the road.

I definitely understand that. My current plan is to buy a house in a different state. Once I get that done, I plan on investing in a fish room and upgrading ALL of my tanks to 100+, instead of upgrading as needed. Currently, I live in a meth capital, so it's pretty difficult to get ahold of a lot of hobby things, even outside of fish keeping, without spending crazy amounts of money for special ordering (lack of demand because everyone is spending on drugs instead).
I see a lot of posts of 100+ gallon aquariums for sale in other states for crazy cheap ($200 to $500) where here, a used 55 gallon with nothing costs more than buying a new set up, and on the rare occasion that something bigger does pop up, it's usually a few thousand. If I'm going to be paying for what they're asking, I might as well buy some new custom tanks that come with a warranty.

Update:
Got my girl moved into a 75.
She still wasn't having anything to do with me or food. Got a little electric blue JD, just moved it in from quarantine today, and she's already out and about. Super thrilled. Hopefully she eats tonight (fingers crossed).
I put a lot of thought into it, and as much as I love her, I'm going to re-home her to someone who has more experience with Jack Dempseys. Already found her a home with the guy I buy my peacock cichlids from. I think she would be happier with him. He will be able to house her better and knows way more than I do. Her new companion will be going with her.
Thanks everyone for the help and support. This has been quite the journey.

Final update on the jack. She has settled into her new home quite nicely. I got a video of her, and she's no longer hiding in her cave, she's eating freely, and her and her now not so little friend have a 3rd roommate that they hang out with. I'm super thrilled to inform everyone that she's doing 1000 times better in her new home. Her tail (which I was convinced wasn't going to grow back) has almost fully returned and she's out begging for food. I'm so happy to see her doing so much better and I'm extremely happy with the new home she got. I do miss her, but I don't regret the choice I made.

Just thought I'd let everyone who helped me with this journey know that your efforts weren't pointless and you guys saved a beautiful lady and helped give her the best possible outcome. I'm sure if she understood what was going on, she'd be as greatful as I am.
