Buenos Aires tetras

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Buenos Aires Tetras are one of my favorites too. Mine grew to just under three inches & thrived in my 8.2 PH tap.
I keep them in a 120 gal. along with a male Rivulatus, Firemouths & an male EBJD. They did fine long term until the Green Terror reached nine inches, then were gradually all picked
off.

I've always liked Buenos Aires Tetras, and thought they would be a good choice in one of my slightly cooler temperature tanks. A local dealer has some nice ones that I almost bought, but I read a fair number of warnings that they are bad plant eaters. Anybody confirm or deny?

BA tetras are under rated. A friend has 30 adults in a 310 with a plie of SA file (severums, geos, leporinus, BGK, etc) and they are great. They spawn frequently so the population is always changing.

As for the plant question, they don't seem to bother the java fern , or anubias in my friend's tank.

You’re friend’s tank sounds awesome. I would love them to spawn. Might need more plants.
