One day soon i'm going to be getting a Smallmouth Buffalo as a pet.
Can Someone tell me the basic care for a Smallmouth Buffalo. Like what to feed it and stuff like that. I'm thinking about feeding it what Carp anglers call "Maize." It's feed corn that is soaked for 24 hours, and boiled for 30 minutes. That makes it safe for the fish to eat.

Thanks,
GG

Don't waste your time feeding it the stuff that is used as fish bait. Feed it live black worms, or frozen blood worms, or cyclopeze or a good quality tiny pellet like Hikari micro pellets. Stuff like corn or other popular fish baits are used to catch fish, fish don't naturally eat them or live on them.

Ok, Thanks!

I know this is a mistake saying this, but I'm getting it from the wild.

I wouldn't say that, as long as it's not coming from an endangered population I have no problem with it. I catch fish from the wild all the time. No worse to catch a fish for your aquarium than catching one for your table.

No problem with collecting natives, just don't release it after it's been in your tank. They seem to have similar feeding habits to common carp, so you might want to try some vegetation as well.

I'm also going to stock the tank with crabs as forage. Shrimps and prawns too when I can get them.

How big is this fish going to be when you get it? ghost shrimp should be good food if it's small start it out of black worms or daphnia, frozen cyclopseze should do well.
