I just finished buffing out my 220g acrylic. The problem is the aquarium is still hazy. I wet sanded starting with 1000 up and down, then with 2000 left to right on the inside and outside of the aquarium. I then buffed in some novus 2 buffing compound then rinsed and cleaned with novus one. Any clue what went wrong??

Probably won't hurt. I doubt you're supposed to do this, but I had better results using a paper towel and novus 2 than some other things I tried to get rid of haze on the last tank I did. I believe I did three applications on the inside and one outside and it was looking pretty close to new. I'm sure every tank is a bit different though. Good luck!

Are you buffing by hand or with a buffing machine? If you are doing it by hand, see if you can get your hands on a random orbital buffer and let a machine do the work.

Does the haze go away once wet?

Are you using any chemicals in the buffing? if so, are you sure that the haze isn't a clouding of the acrylic brought on by the chems you're using? I have seen some chemicals cause a milky haze to plastic like that before. if this is the case I don't think you can buff that back out again, it goes too deep.

if its not this it sounds like you need to go with a finer buffing compound

not sure if it goes away when wet, i will look when i get home. the only chemicals i used are the two novus products

Try doing a section by hand and see how it turns out. I'm not 100% sure why, but I found that doing the final buffing by hand gave me the best results...I was also using an orbital buffer and I think it was just too aggressive for the final polishing.

Also, be sure that whatever you are using for the final polishing is completely free of any of the Novus Heavy Scratch remover. Ideally you would want to use a brand new pad/applicator when you are applying the Fine Scratch remover.

Good luck!
