Just now noticed this post. In answer to your question, the black one I had was almost completely black with subtle tan tones from day one, not the usual yellow/gold/orange with black bands as with most bufonis found. Mine had come from Peru and grew to around 11-12". Your fish is an exceptional example of the species, very robust and good looking I must say. They will change colors to some degree based on environment and yours seems unusual in that respect. I've kept a few typically colored bufonis in the past and they retained the original colors for years.
