Build a crayfish trap...?????

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
when i was younger there was a pond by my house w/ so many crays in it that if you sneaked up to the edge of the pond and then jumped it looked like the bottom was moving because of all the crays scuttling around. our favorite way to catch them was to mold some cheese or powerbait around a swivel tied to a stick or on a fishing pole and just let it sit on the bottom until we felt the crays fighting over it. then just pulll them out(they don't like to let go)

hmmm seems easy. I wouldnt mind getting some of these buggers out of the river systems

Easy as Pie!

1x 5 Gal Bucket
10' of Rope
Cat Food

Put Cat food around a rock or something that has weight and will not float, throw bucket about 10' from shore. come back the next day? Free Craws! Just pull in the rope! I Have got some serious monsters in my day! and as soon as it is warmer here I am going to trap, then put some buggers in a 10 (watch out, they will climb out!) Put a Good Top on, and in about a week, (Q Time) I will throw 1 or 2 in for my Jag, Red Devil and my Jack! CA/SA go Craize for them!

:D

take a 2 liter bottle cut the top part off, and the very small opening, make it a little bigger. put in some gravel, duct tape the top of the bottle upside down, like a funnel, slightly angle the smaller opening in an upward direction, bait it with what ever you got*S* and plac eit in the creek, stream or what not. check daily*S* they get into the bottle and have a heck of a time getting back out. depenind on the size of the opening will determine how large the cray fish you get. i have made these and they do work surprisingly well. simplicity is the best design.

lol just google... man i bet you guys would kill to live here i have a creek about 300feet away from my house there is a crayfish about every 3square feet

I just buy them at the lfs for 2 bucks, and toss them in.

yeh in australia we have a thing called an opera house trap its called that because the shape resembles the opera house anyway the concept is

that the cray go's through the holes and goes for the bait inside thing is that when they go down all they do is jump down and eat away but since they cant jump or lift there limbs high enough to reach the ledge they cant get out. anyway i dont know if there are any crab traps in america but if there is bait them up and they'll work. also if u do know of a place where there is a population of crays get an old stocking stuff the part where the foot is supposed to be with beef mince and tie the top part to a stick(only use one leg part of the stocking) and dip it into the water at the bottom for 5 or so minutes pull it out gently and swing the pole to wards the bank and grab yourself some cray. by the way just out of curiousity how big is your bass? also u can buy crab traps cheap as in the papers where people advertise stuff they wanna sell.

i've used the same one as pburstom, in ny also. just make sure you don't leave it in the water too long.
