Hey all,
The wife and I just finished building an indoor pond using a rubbermaid 300 gallon stock tank and a skippy filter that sits above it. Don't worry we will show it off in another thread.
This pond with house 1 turtle (for now) and maybe some fish if they survive.
We should have checked on this before hand since everything is finished now but hindsight is 20/20.
I have a Laguna PT350 or 2900 model that runs through 1 1/4" pvc and into the skippy filter and then it overflows into a 2" bulkhead and down into 2" pipe where it either can go to a waterfall or w/ a valve shut off it goes through a tee and then down into the water for a more silent approach.
One problem we're having is that we getting a gurgling sound coming out of the 2" bulkhead fitting that is fairly noisy. We are trying to figure out a way to quiet it down.
Another issue is that the 2" bulkhead and pipe does not seem to be able to handle the water flow. We also put in a shutoff valve to be able to turn off the water fall and have the water goes down into the pond under the water. It works "ok" when going to the waterfall as the water will cover about 3/4 of the bulkhead. But when we shutoff the valve to the water fall, the skippy filter actually starts to overflow!
This worked fine w/ a test pump (less powerful) but now w/ the bigger pump the skippy filter actually overflows.
I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to cut down the flow from the pump by restricting it
unless anyone has a better idea?
Normally I would just cut out the pipe and put in a bigger size but everything is sealed up behind cultured stone veneer and we can't change it now.
Here is a rough sketch of the setup.
Thanks and great site btw
