bose receivers are pretty nifty for auto config and stuff, they know to change the pitch depending on the location there put, etc

A lot of recievers do this now with the mic they include. You plug in the mic and they will auto balance every speaker according to your room layout.

There is no BEST speaker as it all depends on what you are going to use it for. You could want music or movies, better highs for speech, or better lows for bass and explosions. You can skimp on soe of the high and lows for better mids. You could spent 100K and get all of the needed speakers and have a amp programed to turn on certain ones when you select varios music sources.

That said you can easily discern lower quality like your store brand insigna speakers and such. Bose is not a bad speaker if it was priced accordingly.

For most people in their homes who dont wish to spend a couple grand on speakers they can go with boston acoustics, polk, or klipsch as my three best bang for buck lines. Out of those three I prefer Klipsch BUT if you are more into music Polk tends to have a bit crisper tweeters for better vocals.

Odd to say but a lot to do with speakers has to do with you. Many people have damaged hearing and thus unlike a TV where many can agree on which tv looks better when lined up side by side, most people can not agree on speakers due to the ranges that that person can hear and if they have any sensitivity to certain ranges.

as a side note, if you want a loud sound system, its better to buy car audio then home audio equipment, this is unrelated to OP tho because you only get 2, or 1 channel per amp...and there is alot of thinking to be done about it...

and assuming your not an audio guru (considering you made the thread with no major specifications) installing 2, 4, or 8 independent amps might be a little much to consume

so if your going to spend a couple thousands you gotta get this monster volitage stabilizer you'd be an idiot if you didnt this thing saves your system this is what make you get that 60,000 hours out of your tv because it keeps it at constant 120vlts trust me bought one saved my ass my house got struck and fried everyone elses tvs cound systems but not mine they thought that they where safe with a surge protector strip sure the storm wrecked my monster stabilizer but got fired and a week later they sent me a brand new one

I went from a 2 year old Sharp Aquos lcd to a Panasonic Viera plasma.
Lcd's do not have a "bit" of washout when the slightest bit of light hits them, it is a lot of washout where the picture almost disappears. On really bright days, ie most of summer, the tv in certain positions in a room would become unwatchable.
The plasma does not have this problem. However, the glass screen does increase the glare should light be dircected at it from whatever source; sun or lamp. On bright sunny days the picture will still be very clear though. Glare can be easily fixed with clever positioning of lamps and if you have your tv wall mounted then glare from the sun is a mute point unless your whole house is glass.
Whites on my plasma are just a good as my previous lcd and as good as the new lcd in my bedroom.
Power consumption on my plasma is slightly more than a similarly sized lcd but technology has moved on a great deal since they were the power hungry monsters everyone still believes them to be. In fact I didn't notice the change.
Plasma screens are easier to clean should any marks get on them as you can't scrub an lcd to get tough marks off.
I was moved away from the brand new LED tv's that had just come out in the store to the plasma by the salesman. He could have made 2 grand on a tv but instead directed me to the much cheaper plasma.
The plasma is way better for gaming.
If you are using a ps3 for blurays then i suggest getting a sound system with optical inputs and using that with the ps3. wires, no matter the quality and shielding will always feature signal loss lag, optical does not have this problem. Just don't look into the end of the wire to see if it is working, it won't end well.

There is no right or wrong tv as the perfect model. They all have their bonuses, you just have to research your own material. Opinions will keep you guessing forever. Look at your room, if you are having it wall mounted, what you want it for and how much you want to spend.

"There is alot of thinking to be done about it" ... completely right. Been tempted but have stayed away due to all the DC to AC power conversion etc to run the amps. If you want loud, I recommend "pro audio". Try some BMC,makie, peavey, eminence, jbl etc. Not so pretty but now we are talking about waking the neighbors.

A little off topic, but no matter how tempted you are .. do NOT try to plug a mic into your regular HT system and do karaoke. I have seen $2K systems turn to mush. Only pro-audio lines are designed to handle live voice. FYI ... here is my budget systems:
HT: 6.1 POLK surrounds, ONKYO(recycled) reciever,dvd,tuner,cd .. 500w?
KARAOKE: 2 diy towers(double 8" 250w Emeninence woofers with matching tweeters) ... cant stand look of concerts in my living room.
Sony reciever + CROWN xls pro amp.

Like I said .. budget due to having too many expensive hobbies. As you can see MFK'ing is one :headbang2
