Getting ready to start a pond and was wondering which way I should go. I already have a 10'x4'x2' galvanized stock tank but don't know if I should go that route.

I have the skill to build a pond and the tools and the knowledge just wondering which way would be better.
This pond is going to house most of my fish in my 600 gallon tank.
Selling the stock tank is not an issue and building is not an issue. I guess my question here is should I just get a pond liner which I would do for either one and use the stocktank or build one?
Any thoughts?

Depends upon what you want. With the preformed galvanized stock tank your pond shape and dimensions are predetermined. With a DIY, you can build it any shape and size you want. The galvanized way does have the advantage of protecting you from a flood if your pond liner should ever spring a leak. So in a nut shell, the choice is yours.

Strollo and Joe thanks for some input. Now both of you really have me thinking. I do see the good in having the added protection of the stock tank if the liner does fail. And I also like the idea of a deeper pond.

So being that I have rays has anyone ever seen an indoor pond that slopes down to a deeper depth? Great...now I am starting to think DIY is the way to go.

I have seen 1 case where someone had rays and the pond was 3' but dipped to 4' for filtration but that was only in the center. I don't think it would be an issue and from what I understand (no personal experience), Rays like to breed in slightly deeper water. Could be a win win for you ;-)

If money is an option, go stock tank. If money isn't a concern, go DIY!
