If you have adult turtles mid 70's is fine for water temps. Up to six months or so need the temps a little higher. And a 150 could work too depending on how many/what species you get.

Im starting with hatchlings. Plus its on the same water as my african cichlid tank so i was hoping to at least achieve 80 without having to set two 300 watt heaters on 91... It really sucks.

I think tomorrow im going to try building a pvc bracket to lay a lid across. I think thats the key.

Yea I'd definitely try to get it up to 78-80 for hatchlings. OR, you could set up a tank for them for the first 6+ months to be sure they're going to thrive, then add them to the big tank

You mean like a 65 or 100 gallon stock tank, when they outgrow it use the 300? I mean they dont necessarily need the 300, i just liked all the real estate. A few adults could even live in a 150.

Yea...or hatchlings can even stay in a 10 to 55 gallon aquarium for a while. It'd be easier to keep up with them that way too...hatchlings are tiiiiiny lol

Alright final answer. Im downgrading to a 150. I dont know about this 300.

Well, decided to go the lid route because i really didnt want to ditch the 300. Need to build the half thats NOT going to be above the basking area a little bigger, so the basking area lid can be off during the day. Then im putting a big plexiglass lid on the other side so light gets in.

So do you think two 4" dats will mess with baby turtles? ; ). Haha

Well, 81.5 with no lid!

And got the canopy and my other led back on the african tank. Aw yeah.

Down to 80.3 in about 18 hours, all with no lid. Wondering how far its going to go. It was also 12 degrees last night so i imagine my basement wont get much colder than that.
