building a 1000 gal concrete block monster tank

LOL. Actually, it's draining right now :irked: I discovered a leak already :cry: :ROFL: I was sort of expecting it though. This sanitred permaflex is great, but on concrete block, it takes a TON of it to get every little pore filled. I saw this pin hole when I was doing my touch ups, and figured, well this stuff is supposed to penetrate so good, so it ought to seal even though theres a pin hole. Wrong. I got a damp spot on the block on the outside. It's no problem, my pump drained it down to about 4" and now I'm using a smaller pump with the inlet right on the floor to finish it off. I'll finish draining it tonight and then tomorrow I'll go over the whole tank again with a fine tooth comb and make sure that every pin hole is filled.

I discovered the right amount of accelerator to add to it to get it to "kick" in about 30 minutes, so after patching tomorrow, I'll re-fill it and post pics.
 
sorry to hear about the leak but glad you found out now and not later =) sounds good, keep up the great work and post pics when you can^^
 
Well, it was good practice on draining the tank. It actually wasn't bad. It took about 15 minutes to drain it down to about 3" of water in the bottom, then the small pump took about 15 minutes to take that down to about 1/4", then another 30 minutes with a squeegy and some towels to completely dry the bottom.

It was cool seeing it 1/4 full though. I can't wait to see it filled!
 
i Just had to drain my 500 gallon tank when i found a leak and it has a drain to get it down to about 4 inches then i used my pythone to get it down to like 1/2 inch then used a shop vac for the rest so it didn't take long at all, so if u have one i would suggest using a wet/dry shop vac to get the last little bit of water out

Yeah, I keep meaning to buy one, and haven't yet. I actually meant to yesterday. Thanks for the tip. You keep asians in your 500? I hope so ;)
 
i hope to get some but i haven't finished the tank quite yet just doing my second test fill right now after finding a leak a few days ago
