Building a 1500 Gallon plywood & glass tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Good news is I got down 3 quarts of pond armor.. Bad news is I am not getting the coverage I expected (Most likely because I suck at doing this) and I have 1 quart left and about 1/3 of the tank left.

This stuff is not easy to work with from a noobs point of view.

There is a place about 20 miles from my house that is listed as a retailer for Pond Armor so I will call them in the morning, otherwise I will need to order another batch online and sand where it overlaps or for touchups. Which sucks cause I didn't want to have to sand any of it.

No pictures as I am too beat to download them from the camera, but they were not al that exciting anyways and only 1 or 2.

I saw Thefishguy applying his stuff and it looked like molasses on a cold day so I don't think it would be very easy for a lot of people to apply. I almost ran into the same problem on my tank with the sweetwater. I wasn't getting near the coverage I thought I was going to get so I didn't get to apply as many coats as I wanted. Is the pond armor a one coat and done type of sealer? If so that would be a bonus over the Sweetwater.

I'd think you'd want to have a bunch of small containers like TheFishGuy did for the patching. That way you can work an area at a time quickly before it starts setting up and becomes difficult to work. Finding how many sq. ft you can work with comfortable without feeling rushed and not having it too thick to work is the key.

Ok second batch of Pond Armor on order. Should be ready to finish the coating this weekend.... Am also going to get an order in for the glass/acrylic (Still debating) this week so it's here by the end of the month and get it installed.

Hopefully, moving the sump into place and will be getting the rough plumbing done this week as well.

:headbang2 Sounds good keep up the good work !

Pond Armor is beating me up.. 2x the product to cover this thing but it's all my fault I just am not good at working with this stuff at all. Good thing is it's so thick I doubt I will have any leaks.. lol

I orderd the glass 5 mins ago.. Will be here in 7-10 days.

I spent the extra money and got starfire.. was almost twice the cost but the wife convinced me that going cheap on the window would be silly seeing how much time & money I have already put into this. And no one likes green glass.

So, she talked me into low-iron glass... lol Sweet..

I will post some pictures tonight of what I have done and you can see the hideous job I did on the pond armor.
