Building a 1500 Gallon plywood & glass tank

Did you or are you going to seal the bulkhead cutouts with the pond armor? It might be a good idea just in case any water sneaks past the bulkhead gaskets. And did you fill in the seams where the pieces of cement board meet with anything or did you just lay the tape over top of it and then the pond armor it? Looks good so far though cant wait to see it getting filled.

Seams are visible because I still need to do a 2nd coat on them

The seams are filled with pond armor. I first used a ketchup style bottle add some fresh pond armor and 30% denatured alcohol and coated all the joints with this solution to allow the pond armor to penetrate the concrete board better. Then after a few hours to allow it to soak in and harden up, I come back around and add the regular coat to the area.

Lastly, I will put a final thick cost on the seams to fill any remaining gaps and to completely cover the tape.

If I had a larger gap somewhere I would mix in some crushed up concrete board chunks as filler while I was doing the 30% alcohol solution step.

The bulkhead openings I am torn on. I may just run a quick coat of drylock over the inside as I cut the opening as close as I could with out damaging the threads and the pond armor would make it too small again.

No word on the glass yet so I think it's safe to assume it will be here mid next week and should be installed hopefully that same day.

Very nice. Progessing very well. I have a request thou. the next time you do pics can you get a top view pic. I'm interested in how you are doing the top bracing.

Sure..

The top bracing will be (4) 3/4" EMT pipes with the ends flat and lag bolted (2 on each end) to the front 4x4 and the back. There will be one near each end (Because I am paranoid) and the other two will split the difference between the span.

so theres only going to be front to back top bracing?
how are you using those bulkheads that are drilled down low? closed loop? just curious :)
looking great, can't wait to see the next update!

Hello ;
I have built a few large tanks and had them built for me. I may be wrong but you need more cross bracing from the top to the back.The water pressure will bow that front wood beam that you have.I had metal and it was still able to bow it out.Just an idea and trying to help you out.
