Well I've decided to finally build a pond in the backyard. I ordered the liner, pump, and filter off of ebay so hopefully I can get started later this week. I ordered a 20' x 20' x 45mm EPDM liner, a submersible pond pump "rated" at 3500 gph (I think it's a Beckett Corp. pump), and a Fish Mate Medium Filter with a 25 watt UV light (rated for ponds up to 4000 gallons). According to the gallon calculator I used on justliners.com, the pond will be approximately 2,250 gallons at 10' x 10' x 3'. I plan on building a retaining wall, filling it with dirt, then placing the liner in there so my dogs will stay out of it. It will probably take me awhile since I work a lot and I always get sidetracked with other projects so please be patient through this process. I'll get pictures up as I progress along. Feel free to offer your opinions and expertise. Thanks. Here are a couple of pics of where the pond will go. These were taken last year before we moved in. I would like to place the pond in the grass between the shop and the brick BBQ grill.

gonna be a bigggg pond?

got a stock list you want already?

I'm not sure yet. My wife will probably want Koi. I'd like to stock it with something more exotic. I could probably keep some warm water fish in it during the spring, summer, and fall but would definitely need to bring them in during winter. Do you have any suggestions? I'd like some P.Bass, but I don't know how they would do in a pond.

Well I've got the liner, pump, and filter. I think I might try to find some old carpet padding to use as the underlayment. Hopefully I can start digging this week, but we've had some unexpected rain the past 2 days. I'll get some pics up before I start digging.

Quit teasing and get working (where's the whip cracking emoticon?) :D

Here are a few pics I took today. All I did was lay out some stakes at each of the 4 corners of the pond. Took a picture of my dogs for good measure. I'm going to start digging later today after I wake up.

Hope the Lab doesn't like water....LOL

Actually he doesn't. He doesn't like getting sprayed with the hose and he stays away from the pool. I need to figure out a way to keep the Great Dane away from the pond though, he slobbers when he drinks water. I was thinking of building the sides of the pond up so that only a foot of it is in the ground, but I'm not sure how to do it.
