Hello MFK!

So its time for me to get another monster tank and i emailed a local tank builder and they told me for a 600 gallon (96x48x30) it would cost me about $3500. I have been doing my research and found that people can build their own acrylic tanks but i haven't seen one this big in a DIY. I am very handy with tools and am certain that i can build it but i would like to get your guys input on if its doable and what materials i would need.

Anything is doable, the true question is are you able to do it right! That's a lot of water to be spilled it a panel fails. For acrylic it seems to be all about having the proper tools, know how and patience...lot's of patience. GL with the build :) I love watching stuff like this come together!

It's doable, there's a ray guy that built his own acrylic tank. I don't think that it was quite that big but it wasn't much smaller.

I made some phone calls to a local acrylic / plastic distributor and was asking about pricing etc. Anyhow, we got to talking and when I told him it was for an aquarium he said it's really important to use "quality north American" brand acrylics, not the "cheap off-shore stuff".

I don't know enough about these things to know if he was giving good advice or just trying to make a bigger sale, but I thought I would pass it along... After all it would really suck to do everything right and still end up with 600 gallons of water in your home...
