It worked for Metaframe, should work for you.

Make should you can put a layer of silicone between tank and metal frame to allow for contraction/expansion differentials.

im a welder aswell, and i did the exact thing your thinking about with the angle iorn it works really well just rust proof it , or if you can get stainless that would be ideal.

No, it's on the outside, but you will get water spills, so it needs to be rust proofed.

I like this thread. it makes me think. I wouldnt mind buying 2 75G tanks and building a square plywood base, sealing it, then taking the 4 long panels and making a square tank. easy to drill for overflows. What are the dimensions on a 75? i wanna figure out what kinda gallon range it would come out to
 
i called a glass shop today for a price on a 48" x 72" piece of glass
i knew it would be high but dang :eek: 380 bucks :eek:with polished edges
this is why i am trying something different:D:D

Look for a glass table top. goodwill, craigslist, freecycle, side of the road etc. (actually this is my daily list).
