building a stand

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Looks really good so far.

thanks, if you like it then just await till i put the pics up in a few mins of the finished product!

Just commenting on the stand. Very nice father and son project. Can't wait for my son to grow up, he's showing interest in tools at a very young age.

thanks, we do alot of projects now to include building muskie lures together and then using them to catch some big fish.

i would suggest making the legs L joints with 2 2x4's instead of just one 2x4

on my 120gal stand i just did the 2x4 on edge and it worked out fine. this stank how ever i put 4x4 legs under it the screwed them in from the side to lift it up a few inches. you can see them in the new pics i am going to be posting once they finish loading up. those pics were just the frame work, i had the 4x4 already planned.

the pics, i just need to clear coat it and put a nice plywood top on the very top. don't mind the blurriness from the sawdust flying. most of the pics just show my dad, because i would stop working to get a pick then keep going. you can see the dust collecting on my harry arm and then i pose in with the stand for a few pics befor we got the trim on it.

for filtration on the 125 i will have 2x fx5 filters and they will be put behind the doors.

thanks amber.

any more ideas on what to put in the 125gal? i am not sure if i want to go the sa cichlid route or not. not really feeling the whole earth eater thing to much. seems limited on options since i dont want to mix to much on the continents for this one.

thanks, i made my stock up 3 goliath tigerfish if they still have them when the tank is ready. then i will have to wait till they get some more in.

The stand looks great... I'd just be worried about how the 4x4 feet are attached to the stand. The full weight of the tank and stand is being held up by screws... what you want is wood on wood. Putting some blocks under the bottom 2x4s would give you some security.
