Building a Tank stand for 65g

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Just to let anyone who is thinking of building their own stand know, the tank stand has now been up for over a year, and shows no sign of warping, bending, buckling or any other defect. It still takes pride of place in my living room.

Go on, build one, you know you want to!

Well I'm pleased to say that 5 years after being built, and 2 house moves, the stand and tank are still in good shape. I need to take some new pictures to update this thread, as the old ones look to have disappeared...

The fish are still much the same varieties as when started as well, although in 5 years some have died and been replaced.

As promised some pics of the tank stand and the inhabitants. It's a standard 65 gallon, 2' high, 3' wide, 18" deep.

For those who are interested the inhabitants are now
8 Angels, 1 bristlenose, 1 rainbow shark, 5 rosy barbs, 4 serpae tetra, 4 blue/opaline gourami, 3 small corries.

The doors are massively over engineered, but I like the way they look, and they have natural weight to them. Also they were just made with the off-cuts from the rest of the build and probably cost about $2 for the wood.

Bearing in mind this was my first ever attempt at a tank stand I'm happy with how well it has lasted and for now long. At the moment no wood is bowing, sagging, rotting or warping, so I should see a few more good years out of this thing at least.

P.S. anyone know how to get rid of the pics below, I uploaded them by mistake.
