building an algae scrubber for 730g

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
(update to be exact its actually exacly 719.4gallons the pond)so my design should work?for the gph on the pump do you think 700gph pump should do it? since am not going to have much on the width?is it overkill or is it too low? what would u reccomend? thanks so much kevin!!! you dont really know how much you helped me. i might just rough it up a lil bit so i can sleep at night hahaha again thanks so much!!! thats not all the filteration am doing i hope everyone knows that. am going to have a bunch of pumps for flow, sand filter, and alot more.

Ummm... I'm not sure, how wide is the piece again? because im not sure what u ment, u said 3' wide and 1' tall? or did you mean 1' wide and 3' tall? because 700gph flow is only enough for 20" of width (lenght of the pipe with the slit in it) also hight doesnt change how much flow you need, just changes the space taken up by it in space taken up, which as you know is just under 2'. Also more is always better then less, as if it needs more space at least its there right?

I think I get the width thing now. So the width is not from the canvas just how big you slit the PVC pipe? So would 2 of the 3ft long x 20" wide x 1ft long would work? Connected with the 700gph pump.(each of the PVC pipes)

I think Kevin has told you everything you need to know lol. But the main reason I suggested an algae scrubber was cause I thought it would be outdoors. You wouldn't have to worry about light bulbs, etc. I personally would get a large skimmer if it were indoors

Okay so the 20"Slit should work am guessing is what your trying to say? Going to buy the PVC, canvas and pumps Sunday. Will update on my build thread. Thanks again guys

I use scrubbers all the time indoors, I like how they clean the water, provide oxygen, and act as a copepod factory.

That would be enough? So only 20" long ,and 1" of width to put the canvas in connected to a 700gph pump. Would I get even better results if i did two identical ones, as my stock will create a decent amount of bio.

Ok, im going to explain this a little better, find a pipe that has the width recomended for your pump, thats usualy between 1" and 2", then get a 26" long piece of it (extra 2" is to make connections to end cap and elbows), you then hang a piece of plastic canvas from it, that is 2' long and 2.5-3' high then you should be good to go.
