Building My 1000 Gallon Plywood Tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Congrats on it holding!!! The tank looks great, and it will get even better with that background. Do you have any cross braces on the top of the tank? If you don't that might be something to look into, especially since it is bulging a bit. Either way I would probably keep an eye on how much it is bulging - maybe measure it every few weeks to start (and then maybe every few months) just to make sure it doesn't gradually start bulging even more. Just a suggestion.

Awesome job.

Yea I have 2 4x4's on top for bracing and I'm checking the bowing everyday it does not seem like its getting worse but I'll definitely be checking every week or so just to make sure. If it gets too much I'll prolly end up putting a beam in the middle hopefully I won't have to tho

Bravo, on a great first up build you have done what many before you have not been able to do.
How many layers of cloth did you lay down on this build?

Thank you, on the walls I used only one layer of 8 oz cloth. On the seams I used 3 layers and the corners have 6 layers . There's 4 coats of fiberglass epoxy and 2 coats of sweet water epoxy paint. The seams and corners I made sure to put thick coats of resin and paint . Fiberglassing was the least fun part out of the whole project especially since I've never worked with it before.

Your build looks great, and I'm happy to see you used fiberglass reinforcements - it probably wouldn't have held water at all without it. Loving the height of it - but I wouldn't wanna be the guy who had to clean your gravel!

Something I'd encourage you to read is this: http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/f...11-Epoxy-Sealant-on-Plywood-a-cautionary-tale <- basically shows what straight epoxy sealant on plywood looks like after a few years in service. You might not have the same issue but I'd suggest draining most of the water and climbing in to have a real close look once a year or so to make sure this isn't happening to you.

That looks awesome bro. Good job. 10g-1000g. Added two zeros. What an upgrade. Wanna come build me one up here in Mackinaw? :naughty:
